What is the process to obtain a pistol permit in Marion County?

PISTOL PERMIT APPICATION PROCRESS

1)      Fill out the application

-          All applicants will be subject to a background check

-          All applicants will be subject to a statewide check

2)      Applicants will be called as soon as the application process is complete.

-          Failure to list criminal history (any arrest) will result in denial of application.

3)      Any arrest will be sent to the sheriff for review.

4)      Once approved the applicant will be notified to come have their picture made for the permit. The applicant must come in person to finish the permit.

-YOU WILL HAVE 30 DAYS UPON NOTIFICATION

5)      You must have an Alabama Drivers License or Alabama State issued ID with a Marion County address.

6)      If you already have a permit but it has been expired for 3 months or longer you will still be subject to this process.

AS OF JANURARY 1, 2023 THE NEW CONSTITUTIONAL CAREE OR PERMIT LESS CARRY IS NO IN AFFECT FOR ALABAMA RESIDENTS INSIDE THE STATE OF ALABAMA.

Residents who plan to carry outside the State of Alabama must obtain a concealed carry permit! This still only applies to States that reciprocate with Alabama.

2,3,4 year options are no longer available.

LIFETIME PERMITS

Available to persons who have had a 5 year permit in Marion County uninterrupted.

19 - 59 years old - $300.00 (19 year olds only have a 1 year or 5 year option_

60+ years old $150.00

IT WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LIFETIME PERMIT HOLDER TO COME IN EVERY 5 YEARS TO HAVE A BACGROUND CHECK RUN.

FAILURE TO DO SO WILL REVOKE PERMIT PRIVILAGES.

Permits will no longer be issued to 18 year olds unless they are active military, with paperwork, and then at 1 year or 5 year increments only.

Change of address must be reported within 30 days. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL REVOKE PERMIT PRIVILAGES.

There will be a $25.00 charge for all permit reprints.

FREE LIETIME permits will be issued to active military, honorably discharged military, and retired military with a DD-214 or NGB 22. Disability discharge not included.

All previously issued permits will be honored.
